Kirk Sandvig

Kirk Sandvig and his family have been part of SonRise Christian Fellowship since 2020. He is grateful for the opportunity to grow in faith and community here, and for the ways the church has supported his family’s spiritual journey.
Kirk teaches in the Department for the Study of Religion at San Diego State University, where he covers courses on religion in global contexts, spirituality, as well as topics in Asian and Pacific Studies. He earned his degrees from St. Olaf College, Luther Seminary, where he focused on Mission and World Christianity, and from the University of Edinburgh’s Center for the Study of World Christianity. He has written and spoken widely on topics of faith, immigration, identity, and community.
When not teaching or researching, Kirk enjoys time with his wife and two children, serving in the church community, singing in the church choir, and finding renewal through spending time at the beach and in the ocean.
